Cardiff Ladies Morris

Who are we?
We are a Morris side based in Cardiff, South Wales and were originally formed in 1973.

Where do we meet and practice?
Rookwood hospital gymnasium on Tuesday evenings at 8:00 prompt-ish. We are currently in our practice season and during these winter months refine our dances and teach new dancers. During the Spring and Summer we often dance out at local hostelries.

Kit
Our kit consists of white shirt, black waistcoat (with a dragon on the peplum) and a bright red full skirt. Summer time, no tights; winter, black ones!

Dances
We like to put on a varied show of Morris and entertain the public. Our Llareggub tradition was created by Cardiff Ladies and is solely danced by us. The name is taken from Dylan Thomas's famous play Under Milk Wood: we don't take ourselves too seriously - read Llareggub backwards! Other dances in our repertoire originate from the Cotswolds and the Welsh Borders.

Musicians
We have several musicians at present who play various types of squeezebox, the fiddle, penny whistle and occasionally Welsh bagpipes. Other musicians will be made most welcome and any instrument would be considered but it would help if it's acoustic and portable!

Want to join?
We offer a warm welcome to those who would like to give Morris a go. It's great fun and a good way to keep fit. Please contact us if you're interested.
